Alexey Bruskov grew up in a megapolis, so for him the subject of the relationship between a person and his city is of a great importance since childhood. The city is a living being, a constantly moving, noisy, rattling, shiny something that spits out the emotions and devours them at the same time.
How do you manage not to lose yourself in this huge city? How do you find your place in it? These are the main questions that move the artist. This is the contemplative-philosophical concept of his picture series "The City and the Man".
In his works, the painter uses an acrylic technique. He deliberately chooses a contrasting black-and-white color palette to underline conflictuality of being, where there is room for light and shadow, for good and evil and for self-delusion and insight. And all of this is tightly interweaved in life.
In all of the artist's works, the viewer sees pictures of a city, be it the subway or the taxi, or people rushing somewhere. And only in the central image named "Stop" a woman contemplatively gazes on this constantly changing city, secluding herself from it to a certainextent and giving it an enraptured look from outside. This picture seems to ask the question: why this this unending haste, what is the meaning of this endless fuss? This is a kind of halt before the newstart, a way to look back, to think over everything, to prioritize and get back on track with the new forces, back to the city.
This series of pictures was created 2018-2019. The artist traveled a lotthrough the USA, Europe and Russia. In the pictures you can see the outlines of New York, Boston, Moscow ... The topic of finding his own place in the world is certainly very relevant for him and reflectshis personal life situation. It is expressed his pictures, which he presents to the viewer.
